2019 Artist announcement | The Trees

by | Mar 8, 2019

It’s International Women’s Day today so what better day to announce that The Trees will be performing at this year’s Freedom Community Festival. Saturday 1st June at 4 pm on the Main stage.

Comprised of four fantastically talented singers and musicians, The Trees are; Alex Hart, Becca Langsford, Elani Evangelou, and Martha Nash. Collectively they share their influences and experiences as one of the few all-female bands in Plymouth. The group formed in 2017, and have since gathered a large and loyal fan base that keeps on growing. If you’ve been lucky enough to see them live you’ll know why. The Trees’ sound is delightful, boasting beautiful, soulful harmonies, rootsy guitars, with infectious melodies and beats. It’s difficult not to be mesmerized by them. The Trees are clearly having fun whenever they play together. Their passion and love for music is palpable, resonating out into the audience and captivating them. Look around, and you’ll see bodies swaying, feet tapping, beaming smiles and wide and sometimes watery eyes.

About The Trees

Becca Langsford has an abundant musical background. Her father being the harmonica player for ‘The Legal Eagles’ and brothers Thomas Ford and Tim Langsford are also musicians with a connection to the blues. Raised on a musical diet of artists such as Taj Mahal, Ray Charles, Dr John, Joni Mitchell and Aretha Franklin, Becca had an early insight into blues, soul and gospel music. In 2008 she was invited to sing onstage by local bluesman, Vince Lee and his band, sowing the seeds for an ongoing collaboration that’s lasted over a decade. Whether as a duo or with a band, Becca and VInce have become a prominent force on the local music scene. In 2011 Becca released her debut album “Big Surprise” and in the process, forged musical relationships with many musicians from the South West. One of those being Alex Hart, who Becca has also toured internationally with. A tour that saw her performing backing vocals and percussion for Martin Barre (Jethro Tull guitarist). Becca and Alex will soon be setting off together again on an extensive 3-month tour.

Alex Hart is a singer-songwriter originating from Ashill, Devon. Alex’s musical journey began at seven year’s old when she found a dusty violin in her grandfather’s attic. She fell in love with music and soon moved onto guitar and began to write songs. Her first solo album “On This Day” was released in 2014 and then went on to tour the UK with her band. She’s also taken West-Country sound around the World and supported Turin Brakes at the Lyme Regis Folk Festival, resulting in two record deals. Her recent EP “For The Summer” features the song “Broken” which has become a mainstay on The Trees setlist. Alex is a versatile artist able to access a range of styles,  providing beautifully crafted, thoughtful songs and passionate vocals. Alex often performs with Becca as a duo, and the pair will soon embark on a 3-month tour (details tbh). Don’t worry though, they’ll be back in time to wow you at the Freedom Community Festival with the rest of The Trees.
